I'm currently living in Tokyo and trying to get involved in the local community, but I've noticed that many of the signs and menus are written in a way that's completely foreign to me. Specifically, I've been trying to learn how to ask for directions or order food in Japanese, but every time I try, I seem to make a mistake. Does anyone have any tips on how to communicate effectively in Japan? One thing that's always stumping me is the phrase "language in Japan" - how do you say this in Japanese?
I've tried looking it up online, but I just can't seem to find a reliable source for the correct translation.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nihongo is the Japanese word for language, and it is widely used in Japan to refer to the Japanese language and its various dialects.
