How to copy and paste on MacBook using keyboard commands?

I recently switched from a Windows laptop to a MacBook and I'm having trouble getting used to the new operating system. I know how to copy and paste on PC, but the Mac keyboard shortcuts seem different. Can anyone explain to me how to quickly copy text and paste it elsewhere on my MacBook?
