I'm trying to communicate with a friend who just arrived from Spain and I want to know how to ask her if she's happy or sad about something, but I don't speak Spanish fluently yet. I've heard that "so" is used as a filler word in some dialects, and I was wondering what it would sound like when translated to Spanish. Can someone help me out?

You can use the phrase está contento o tristeó por algo? (Are you happy or sad about something?) or cómo está? (How are you?) for a more casual tone. Alternatively, you can say te án el ótimo? (Is everything okay?) to show concern and ask about your friend's well-being.
